Oh this must be one of my favorite weddings to be a part of in all time. Sheila and Chip were my first ever paying customers years ago when I first started my little photography business many years ago. Their son Joe was just a little baby, barely sitting up, and I think I charged them the amount it would cost me to rent a lens for the session – you have to start somewhere! Throughout the years I’ve continued photographing them when I was back in DC, and even got to photograph the newborn photos for their second baby, Crosby, just weeks after they had learned that Chip had stage 4 lung cancer. I was able to photograph their family a couple more times before Chip passed away in January 2015.
Sheila has always inspired me with her strength and grace and unwavering sense of humor – she is one of the funniest women I know. I am so thankful that she came into my life all those years ago! This past spring, we planned to take some updated family photos and she let me know that there would be four of them in the photos – their longtime friend Clete would be joining the family! When they got engaged shortly thereafter, and Sheila called to ask if I would photograph their wedding in Alexandria, VA, it was a no brainer. I booked my tickets immediately. It was such a beautiful, joyful weekend of celebration, and I am so thankful to have been a part of it.
